Debussy – Golliwogg’s cake walk (Children’s Corner) – arrgt. 3 cl, bass cl/ brass, saxophone quartet, guitar duo
duration: around 2’30
The cakewalk, which emerged around 1850, is a popular dance that originated among Black people in the Southern United States as an ironic imitation of the way their masters carried themselves when heading to balls. Sometimes, indulgent masters would attend these gatherings and reward the best dancers with a cake—hence the name.
