Wave I – SATB a cappella

this composition (with Wave II – In terra pax & Wave III) was commissioned by Aoife Hiney choir master to be part of the project of a book destinated to young choirs & singers. They approach, with a pedagogical focus, through a technical evolution from the simplest to the most complex, various aspects of the concept of wave in choral music.

Based on a pentatonic scale, a simple wave begins in the men voices and spreads to the women. Then the voices shift relative to each others in different games of mirror and imitation, until to express themselves vertically in pentatonic accords which create the resonances of the last bares as an echo of the beginning.
