Northern Lights / Hodie Christus natus est – 4 women, 4 men soloists, 4 choirs singing overtones

One of the most famous & beautiful gregorian hymn!
The theme of the birth of Christ led me to envision four soloists (perhaps the four apostles?) and four choirs—representing the four cardinal directions, with the audience positioned in their midst—and to combine the magnificent Gregorian melody with the sounds of overtones produced by the human voice.

The original plainchant melody appears in a Swiss manuscript dating from around 990 AD, it was likely sung long before that date.

hodie Salvator apparuit:
hodie in terra canunt Angeli,
laetantur Archangeli:
hodie exsultant justi, dicentes:
Gloria in excelsis Deo, alleluja.

Today Christ is born:
Today the Saviour appeared:
Today on Earth the Angels sing,
Archangels rejoice:
Today the righteous rejoice, saying:
Glory to God in the highest: Alleluia.

Gloria in excelsis Deo, alleluja.
