The Sleeping Giant, « le Géant endormi », est une montagne dans le Connecticut, le long de la chaîne des Appalaches, appelée ainsi en raison de sa ressemblance avec une figure humaine plongée dans le sommeil. D’après la légende amérindienne de la tribu quinnipiac, il s’agit d’Hobbomuck, qui, sous l’effet de la colère due au mauvais traitement subi par son peuple, dévia le cours du fleuve Connecticut en tapant du pied sur le sol. Afin d’éviter que de telles catastrophes se reproduisent, il fut ensorcelé et contraint à un sommeil éternel par le bon esprit Keitan.

The Sleeping Giant is a mountain in Connecticut, along the Appalachian Range, so called because of its resemblance with a human figure plunged into sleep.
