Description
I would sing in simple verse
the plants, their loves unknown,Their hidden inclinations,
The humble moss that clings to fountains’ vaults,
The grass that spreads its carpet o’er the meadows green.
Upon these lofty heights, the precious cedar,
Perfuming all the air, reaching toward heaven’s lands,
To offer up its incense to Nature’s God above;
The reed that trembles by the edge of a limpid stream,
The aspen, soft of speech, whose fresh leaves
Fills the ancient forests with gentle sounds,
And the pine that grows upon wild shores,
Seems the plaintive echo of seas and storms
The innocent Nature and her moving scenes,
As well as my love, shall share in my songs.
